In partnership with Flagstaff Medical Center, Loven Contracting constructed a 13,000SF emergency department addition to the existing hospital in Flagstaff, Arizona. The emergency department features three observation rooms, two trauma rooms, one OBGYN room, and six treatment rooms.

All project phases took place within an active and occupied facility, making communication with hospital staff and awareness of operational activities crucial. Ongoing changes to the department’s layout occurred throughout the project’s multiple phases, requiring extensive coordination, planning, and wayfinding to safely direct patients and staff. In addition, all rooftop work was conducted near an active helipad. Site crews were linked to the campus radio and provided with a flight protocol, allowing for a fifteen-minute shutdown of activities with incoming flights. Foreign object debris (FOD) awareness was utilized throughout the duration of the project.

Loven Contracting conducted daily meetings with the Flagstaff Medical Center team to coordinate hospital construction sequencing and mitigate disruption to hospital operations throughout all phases of the expansion and renovation, resulting in a completion date two weeks ahead of schedule.
