Historic Preservation
Loven Contracting’s award-winning historic preservation division offers an array of services via a single resource to owners of, or investors in, historic properties. We recognize that preserving a historic building involves more than safeguarding cultural heritage; it’s a modern construction endeavor shaped by budgets, timelines, existing conditions, and project requisites.
Our Team Knows Historic Preservation
Whether it is historical preservation or robust adaptive reuse projects, the Loven Contracting team can navigate any challenge.
Meet our qualified craftsmen: Our experienced team of craftsmen bring a combined 100 years of field knowledge, developing techniques that exceed industry standards. They use historically appropriate materials while incorporating modern systems like MEP, Fire/Life, and ADA compliance to meet historic preservation guidelines.
Our Specialties
Experience-Based Estimating: Our preconstruction team offers realistic estimates and cost-saving options based on decades of procurement knowledge and experience.
Preservation Planning: Our team will partner with you to develop a step-by-step plan that includes sourcing historically appropriate material, site planning, environmental contaminant assessment, and working with the federal, state, and local preservation offices to ensure compliance.
Architectural Surveys: We offer architectural survey services and will document existing architectural components, as documentation may be required for compliance with preservation guidelines or may be utilized in grant applications.
Adaptive Reuse Planning: The greenest building is the one that is already built. Loven Contracting will work with property owners to repurpose existing structures to suit current needs.

Historic Preservation Highlights
BRIGHT ANGEL CABINS ROOF REPLACEMENT
This project is located at a UNESCO World Heritage site, leading to a high-trafficked site leading to an increase in safety measures which had minimal impact on park activities and allowed us the team to match shingles to paint and salvage original materials.
LUMBERYARD BREWING COMPANY
As a Arizona Real Estate and Development Award (RED) recipient, the Lumberyard Brewery Taproom and Grille is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with high-trafficked one-way streets and located adjacent to an active BNSF railway. This adaptive reuse project included structural repairs and asbestos abatement while reusing the building’s original wood trusses.
BUCKEY O’NEILL CABIN
Winning both the Arizona’s Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor Award and the ENR Award of Merit for Renovation/Restoration, the Buckey O’Neill Cabin is a UNESCO World Heritage, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and sits just inches from the edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
