Loven Contracting’s historic preservation carpentry team replaced the roofs and repaired key historic elements on the historic Bright Angel Cabins located in the historic Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Key to the success of this project was a site management plan that ensured minimal impact on the activities of park visitors and staff in a high-volume visitation zone. Specific components of the management plan included a phased project schedule that enabled us to reduce the size of the work area, screened fencing, and an adjusted work schedule to minimize work during high visitation days.
Loven Contracting’s ability to self-perform intricate carpentry work was utilized to replicate the historic textures of the original logs/viga via modified modern tools for efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, all paints were matched using NPS guidelines, and the original cedar shingles were replaced with in-kind materials for historical accuracy. Sustainable practices included the evaluation of and re-installation of salvageable original materials and meeting all client requirements.

Loven Contracting partnered with long-time client Martin Automotive Group to construct a 75,223SF state-of-the-art automotive dealership in Flagstaff, Arizona.
The architectural masonry facility is equipped with advanced technology features, including standard and oversized van lifts, ultra-durable Clinker tile, and an under-slab car exhaust system. Other features include interior glass walls and glass doors with in-floor door closers and full-height hardware throughout, as well as a machine room-less elevator to increase useable square footage.
The Mercedes-Benz of Flagstaff features two distinct climate control zones in the service and customer/office areas to enhance staff and customer comfort. To maximize cost savings, Loven Contracting worked closely with the architects to successfully adapt the specialized dealership architecture from electric to gas heat to align with Northern Arizona’s climate demands and produce significant long-term savings for the owner.
The project site also features three underground storm retention fields to maximize available parking space for the dealership. Loven Contracting installed LED lighting technology that complies with Flagstaff’s Dark Sky City ordinance while minimizing lighting costs.

The William Lowell Putnam Collection Center and Library located in Flagstaff, Arizona is a new addition to Lowell Observatory’s educational facilities. The Putnam Collection Center and Library serves as a resource center for historian studies and includes a research library, processing room, staff offices, and a collections repository that houses historic photographs, photographic glass plates, an array of antique instruments, artifacts, and an archive of historic papers from across Northern Arizona.
Construction on the library was conducted through both the summer monsoon season and winter months in an environmentally sensitive area surrounded by a dense forest, slopes, and substantial amounts of basalt bedrock. Despite these environmental challenges, the Loven Contracting team delivered construction services on time and without disrupting Lowell’s active observatory campus.
With the Steele Visitor Center, Hendricks Center for Planetary Studies, metal and fabrication shop, and smaller historic observatories located directly adjacent to the new facility, construction was scheduled so that all nearby facilities remained in full operation throughout the duration of the project. Because necessary rock blasting took place adjacent to historic telescope enclosures, buildings, and sensitive equipment, seismic monitors were utilized to verify resulting vibration activity. Blasting was precisely scheduled to avoid disruption to Observatory visitors and surrounding public areas.
Other aspects of the construction job on the collection center and library included:
